Dear Work-

I am not looking forward to waking up early, getting dressed and leaving the house before 8:30am. I am not looking forward to being away from my family. I have enjoyed the time we spent away from each other, I think we both needed that break to learn to respect each other. I am not looking forward to the 8 1/2 hours we will spend together tomorrow. I hope it goes by fast. I wish we lived in Sweden, maybe then we could still be friends. But thank you, thank you for being there for me to return to.
See you tomorrow.

Carly.

At three months, Sonny is probably the cutest baby in the world (no offense to all the other baby mama's out there). See for your self:

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!!!!!

January 25, 1981. Super Bowl Sunday - Raiders vs. Eagles (for those of you who know my problem with numbers {katie} it was Super Bowl XV! 15 and 25- great right?). Alicia Keys was born (She was playing on Colbert when we were in the audience, her Mom was sitting behind me- somehow we started talking - and I said "we have the same birthday"). Lame. Which leads me to I WAS BORN. In Boulder Colorado.

I had a real nice 30th birthday. Woke up to the heavens throwing confetti all over Manhattan in celebration of my birthday. Lounged around, josh made me breakfast. Lounged around. Then josh watched Sonny and I took the looooooooooooooooooooooongest shower I've taken in a long time. It was one of the BEST present I could have imagined. A long hot shower has to be one of my favorite things. ever. Lounged around. Met josh out for dinner. Since it's Restaurant Week, I was going to pick a nice fancy place, but didn't want to be disappointed or have to think too hard to find a place, so I went with the most trusty: Vegetarian Paradise. This is probably our most frequented NYC establishment. Sonny, Josh and I partied so hard, we closed that place DOWN. They even put a candle in my cake, wrote happy birthday on the plate and sang to me.

Then tonight, josh made me a cake with FRESH icing and it was delicious. Oh yeah, he also made me an awesome banner that I woke up to on my birthday. Happy Birthday to ME!!!! (and Alicia Keys).

Going Back in Time

Vince Guaraldi - Christmas Time Is Here [Instrumental]

Found at Christmas Time Is Here [Instrumental] on KOhit.net

Let us pretend it is January 2nd. All the holiday festivities are over. But we still have the Christmas spirit. We can still taste the candy canes and hot chocolate. Still smell the Fresh Pine candle (fake trees everywhere i look) and still finding bits of wrapping paper on the ground. Here are some of the pictures from Christmas in NC. Lots of little ones and lots of fun.
p.s. You better listen to the music as you look, b/c it too FOREVER for me to figure out how to get it there.

These are from our NY celebrations:

A Day in the Life (woke up, fell out of bed)

Some days are glamorous some are not. Today was not (i didn't even wear lipstick). I sometimes make plans and just hope that the details work themselves out. They did today. barely.

Two doctor appointments. Me. And Sonny. The appointments were for me - not Sonny. But he came along. Poor kid. Freezing today. 2pm Dentist- 79th and York (9 miles - 1 hour travel time. I called ahead to make sure my dentist's wife would be there to hold Sonny during the cleaning (very relaxed dentist office - Old man dentist, wife runs the place). Sonny wakes up - NOT HAPPY. Stop the cleaning for a feeding. Resume cleaning. No cavities, teeth are GREAT. Chit Chat with the wife before she gives me Sonny back. Next stop my friend Kathryn's. Only enough time to get to meet her cute little son, change Sonny's diaper, eat my soup i bought on the way there and leave. 4pm Ob/Gyn - 97th and Central Park West (2 miles - 19 min travel time). Sonny's tired. NOT HAPPY. First time new patient. Paper work (one handed). Diaper change (bathroom toilet). Taken back for vitals. Start nursing Sonny. They need that room. My exam room not ready yet. They stick me in the tiny office/lab/all confidential patient stuff room between exam rooms to finish nursing Sonny. Lock me in. Pretty sure patients aren't allowed in there. New patient enters the room i just exited. I get to hear her tell the dr. all about her burning vagina and the cramps that wake her at night. Pretty sure I'm not supposed to/ want to know this. Door unlocks, my room is ready. My boots, coat, hat, scarf, Sonnys mittens, hat and ergo all already off our bodies. Nurse carries ALL of that (+ diaper bag) while I carry a sleeping Sonny to exam room. Told to take off my pants and wait. Sonny wakes up (slept 10 minutes). Wait. Naked from waist down. holding a fussy baby. Wait. Wait. Nurse comes in takes Sonny and leaves. Dr comes in. Get My IUD. Finally. Nurse brings me a crying TIRED Sonny. Bundle up. Sonny's OUT in 2 minutes. Walk to train. Get Home (6 1/2 miles - 35 min). Sonny wakes up.
I give today a 9 out of 10 for best day ever.
tomorrow's my birthday.

Hodgepodge

Time just goes and goes and goes and then it's gone. I picture a clock with it's hands going around so fast that you can't even see them. Yep, that's how I feel. It slows down a tiny bit after midnight, slow enough that I can do some things but still fast enough that before I know it it is 3am. Back when I wasn't on maternity leave, josh would often come to bed around 3 and I couldn't imagine what could still be going on after 1. Now I get it. Things. There are always things to do. Relax is one of those things. I like to relax. I'm relaxing right now. So relaxed I don't even feel like posting all the pictures I intended on posting from Christmas to now.
The last month in brief:
  • Christmas - Spent in N.C. Enjoyed the food, family and friends. We had wii tournaments- they were SERIOUS. Did I win any of the big ones? No. Am I sore about it? No. I did do the best at flapping my arms like a bird and landing on the targets. Sonny went on his first boat ride (pictures to come). He was so impressed he fell asleep (I blame the cold not the activity itself)
  • New Years - Watched it on TV, ate some brownies and had some grape juice. The store was out of sparkling stuff.
  • Came back to NY. Nice to be back home. It was cold. Frigid. Snowy. Snow storms in NYC are pretty for about 5 minutes then its like the tar pits, only if tar was slushy instead of sticky. It's gross.
  • Went to Orlando for my sister's bridal shower. The shower was nice, her friends did a great job. Had cake tastings for the big event. Cicely went with Raphsodic Bakery- Too bad you aren't invited to the wedding because the cake is going to be AWESOME!! Really. The flavors we chose and the design, I can't even think about it without getting excited. Weather was soooo nice. Sonny and I would go outside and walk to the end of the road to the lake with NO COAT. It wasn't even cold. A t-shirt was sufficient.
  • Back to NYC. Went to the Mvsevm of Natvral History (that's the way the cool people write it) tonight for This is your Brain on Ping Pong. I always love being someplace after hours, things just seem more magical. I wore lipstick - cause I'm almost 30.
I have so many pictures to post! I'll do that this week sometime. Here is a family portrait in the meantime.
